Traffic curbs to stay on New Year Day: NH-44, central & south Delhi roads affected; commuters urged to plan

NEW DELHI: Traffic restrictions will continue on Thursday, with Delhi Traffic Police issuing diversion advisories across key stretches in the city in view of the New Year celebrations.

According to the traffic police, heavy footfall is expected at prominent religious sites, including Khatu Shyam Delhi Dham Mandir on NH-44 and Shri Mata Jhandewalan Mandir in Paharganj, due to New Year Day and ekadashi.


The vehicular movement on NH-44 and adjoining roads is likely to remain slow, particularly during peak hours. For NH-44, traffic may be diverted mainly for commercial vehicles, when required, at Singhu border, Bakoli on Urban Extension Road-II and Bakoli village cut. Commuters have been advised to use alternate routes such as UER-II and Palla-Bakhtawarpur roads, and avoid roadside parking to ensure smoother traffic flow.

In central Delhi, Rani Jhansi Road and nearby stretches are expected to witness congestion due to the anticipated rush at Jhandewalan Mandir. During peak hours, motorists have been asked to use DBG Road, New Rohtak Road or other adjoining roads as per their convenience.

In south Delhi's Saket, traffic diversions will remain in place around major malls, including Select Citywalk, DLF Avenue and MGF Metropolitan Mall. According to the advisory, traffic arrangements will be effective from 12pm and diversions from 2pm. Among the affected roads will be Press Enclave Road and internal stretches of Saket and Pushp Vihar.

Several other restrictions have been announced to manage traffic in these areas: median cuts between Sheikh Sarai and Hauz Rani will remain closed, heavy vehicles and DTC/cluster buses will not be allowed on Press Enclave Road and buses will not ply towards Pushp Vihar from MB Road/Asian Market red light.

Alternate routes have been suggested for commuters travelling between Chirag Delhi, Qutub Minar, Khanpur, Sangam Vihar and Sainik Farm, including stretches via MB Road, Lado Sarai and TB Hospital red light.

The traffic police has urged motorists to plan their journeys in advance, follow on-ground instructions and allow extra travel time. Real-time updates are available through its official platforms and helpline numbers.
