NEW DELHI: Three children, aged between 14-15 years, drowned in the Yamuna on Wednesday afternoon. After the fire brigade received a call around 1.50pm, divers from the Delhi Boat Club reached the spot and rescued the children, all residents of Shastri
Park near Geeta
Colony in east Delhi. However, they were declared brought dead at LalBahadurShastri Hospital.
They have identified as Amarjeet
, Karan and Manoj
. “I always told my son not to go there but he wouldn’t listen to me. He came early from school today and I was at work,” said Geeta Devi, mother of Amarjeet alias Golu (14).
The boys were studying in different classes in the local government school. According to classmates, they had a half day at the school.
Manoj (15), referred to as Prince by his friends and family, was in Class VII. “He always wanted to play and had many friends,” said his mother Mamta Sharma. “I feel like I can see him coming back home with his water bottle, like he does every evening.”
“My son returned home and left for the river at 11 am,” said Karan’s mother. His brother Devinder said, “He used to love studying. Then he would clean the house and fetch water. Normally he would not go to the river because he would not have time.”
