Teen killed over cycle-on-rent dues
NEW DELHI: A 14-year-old boy paid a steep price for failing to cough up the money he owed to the person he hired a bicycle from. Teenager Raufiq Alam (name changed) was killed by 40-year-old Mohammed Usman on Sunday in south Delhi’s Okhla area. The victim had gone to the market to buy groceries when he was abducted by Usman.
According to the police, Usman, who is absconding, may have sexually assaulted the teenager before killing him.

A Class IX student, Alam stayed with his family. His father owned a zari unit and Alam was the youngest among three siblings.
Like other boys in the locality, Alam too would also regularly hire cycles from a neighbourhood shop owned by Usman, who charged per ride. Alam’s fault lay in the fact that he had not paid Usman for the last few months, following which Usman took up the matter with his family.
"Two days ago Usman came to our house and said Alam owed him money which he wanted immediately. We told him that we would send Alam to settle the matter, after which he left," said the victim’s brother Quarimuddin.
"On Muharram, my father gave Alam Rs 1,000 to buy grocery in the morning. When he did not return till evening, we panicked and launched a search. We also filed a missing complaint with the police."
On Monday morning, the family while searching for Alam reached Usman’s locked house. From the window they noticed someone lying inside and informed the police. The police broke open the door and found Alam lying dead.
"His clothes had been torn off and there were strangulation marks on his neck. It seems the boy resisted and the assailants in order to keep him quiet, strangled him," said a senior police officer.
The police have registered a case of murder and sent the body for postmortem. A hunt has also been launched to nab Usman.
