NEW DELHI: An FIR has been filed against six women leaders of the
Samajwadi Party and around 25 unidentified persons in connection with a protest held in Lucknow against Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta's comments against SP chief Akhilesh Yadav.
The FIR names Samajwadi Party's Payal Kinnar, Juhi Singh, Sumaiya Rana, Bina Rawat, Suman Yadav, and Vandana Chaturvedi. The protest took place following Rekha Gupta’s controversial remarks, where she reportedly referred to Akhilesh Yadav as a "tonti chor (tap thief)" during an interview with a news channel.
The women leaders and their supporters demanded an apology or resignation from Gupta over the disparaging comment.
Akhilesh Yadav also condemned Gupta's statement, questioning, "Where is she getting the confidence to speak like this?"
Additionally, Yadav criticized the Uttar Pradesh government, accusing it of secretly preparing an "underground army" that is insulting the people.
