Students participated in “Chalo JNU” demonstration despite administrations advise against it
NEW DELHI: “Chalo JNU” called by JNU Students’ Union, protesting the inaction of the authorities in finding Najeeb Ahmed, who has been missing since one month, received lukewarm response as around 300-400 students joined the demonstration on Tuesday.
AAP MLA Saurabh Bhardwaj also joined the protest and demanded lie-detector test for all those who had allegedly assaulted Najeeb Ahmed the night before he went missing.
“Our party is with the students. The government is saying India will be a superpower and yet you are not able to find a student who went missing from the campus? That’s because ABVP is involved, which is the student’s wing of the party of the Prime Minister. There are various ways to find the truth -- narco-test, brain mapping, lie-detector test. Conduct lie-detector test on the VC to find out why he has not acted on the matter,” said Bhardwaj.
Despite the JNU administration’s “advice” to JNUSU office bearers not to go ahead with the demonstration, the students didn't change their plans.
Mother of Ahmed, Fatima Nafees, his sister and other relatives also joined the gathering at Ganga Dhaba, where the mother demanded searching of the residences of the vice chancellor and professors in the campus.
While a large number of students were anticipated to join the nationwide call “Chalo JNU”, there were not many students from JNU itself at the gathering.
Akbar Choudhary, former president, JNUSU, said: “The number could have been more, but due to the ongoing exams probably many students could not come and join us.”
Many outsiders joined the march. Apart from AAP MLA Saurabh Bhardwaj, AAP's student’s wing CYSS, Krantikari Yuva Sangathan, Jamia Students’
Addressing the media, Nafees said: “People are making fun of my tears and no one is serious about finding about the whereabouts of my son. Police never searched the campus. They should also search the residences of the professors and the vice chancellor.”
JNU administration on Monday night issued a circular stating that the event has been organized “without any prior permission from the competent authority of the university. In this call, a large number of outsiders are anticipated to participate which may create unrest and a security threat inside the campus. Hence, JNUSU is advised not to hold this gathering.”
