NOIDA: The 20-year-old BBA student who died after falling from the 6th floor of Centre Stage Mall in Noida on Saturday night had actually leaped to his death, sources in the Noida police said, adding he had taken the extreme step after he had broken up with his girlfriend recently.
Revealing this, official sources said Adhiv Raj Singh had come with a girl to watch a movie.
"A shoe print at the spot from which Adhiv had jumped suggests that he was talking to someone while climbing the railing to jump to his death. The shoe print proves that he was walking backwards onto the railing."
Adhiv, a second year student of Bachelor of Business Studies in Amity University, was staying at the varsity hostel. Adhiv was the son of a Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) official who lives with the rest of the family at Madhuban Colony in Delhi.
"The closed circuit television camera (CCTV) footage of the mall failed clearly show the student actually climbing onto the railing. The CCTV cameras only showed the youth falling to his death. The light inside the mall was not sufficient and hence the CCTV cameras do not have the complete footage of the incident," said a police officer.
Meanwhile, in an unusual departure from the norm, the postmortem examination on the body of Adhiv was conducted at night. The whole procedure was video filmed. The autopsy report said that Adhiv had died of shock and haemorrhage as a result of the injury that he suffered due to the fall. Doctors have preserved the viscera for further forensic examination.
SP Chowdhary, a prominent criminal lawyer in Noida, said, "There is no provision which prescribes that a postmortem can be conducted at night, with the help of artificial light. Even an executive magistrate cannot give any special permission to carry out an autopsy at night. If he does and there is a dispute about the autopsy, he will have to answer in a court of law."
When this reporter asked a police officer for his comment on the issue, he said, "I will have to look into what the law says."
