NEW DELHI: Residents of Ramjas College hostel are up in arms against the college authorities over the warden''s refusal to release funds for their annual festival. While four students are reportedly on hunger strike, the remaining residents are protesting against what they call an "arbitrary move".
Ramjas College hostel union chairman Sanjeev Rai alleged the warden, Hemant Laskar, was holding back money which was rightfully theirs.
"The hostel authorities have collected Rs 21,000 as mess fine, while Rs 14,000 which was collected under the head of garden funds lies unutilised. We are merely asking him to release a part of it as was done last year," said Rai.
According to Rai, about Rs 35,000 was drawn from the welfare fund last year for the festival. "But Laskar is refusing to do so this year," he alleged.
College principal Rajendra Prasad, however, said he had asked the warden to "consider the issue sympathetically. I have asked him to resolve this hunger strike immediately," he said.
