Spurned, Delhi teen plots murder over 3 years

NEW DELHI: He was 14, she was 11. They met regularly at tuition classes and he fell in love with her and proposed. The girl turned him down and, instead, complained to the teacher who reprimanded the boy. The story could have ended there, but the boy could not forget the insult.

He continued to pursue her and, eventually, the girl forgave him. The two became friends and started to meet often. However, the girl, now 14, had no idea of what was coming. The boy, 17, hatched a sinister plot to kidnap and murder her and extort money from her family.

On Saturday evening, the two went to watch a movie after which the boy asked her to accompany him to spend some time together. They took an auto to Jhilmil Metro station and then took the metro to reach Welcome.

The boy had scouted an under-construction building near the station and the two walked till there. Once there, he went and bought some soft drinks and mixed a heavy dose of sedatives. As she fell ‘asleep’, he tied her hands, mouth and legs with a tape he was carrying and then smashed her head. He then throttled her with bare hands. Thereafter, he calmly went home. Meanwhile, the girl’s family desperately searched for her. The girl’s mobile phone was found switched off. They approached the police for help.

“We received information about a 14-year-old girl having gone missing and launched a search operation. An FIR of abduction was registered and a team, led by ACP Mukesh Tyagi and SHO Youdhbir Singh, formed to investigate,” DCP (Shahdara) Meghna Yadav, said.

The police teams collected CCTV footage and tracked the movements of the girl that were corroborated by her mobile records. The cops analysed the call records and that led them to the number of the accused.

For a teenager, the boy showed a lot of confidence and told cops that he had indeed met her. He claimed they had gone to have ice cream after which he went home. However, the electronic trail nailed him. The boy finally broke down and confessed to having murdered the girl. He told cops that he could not forget the insult and thus planned revenge and make some money in the process.

He led the police team to the spot where the girl’s body was found tied up. The case was cracked within a few hours of being reported. Police said they would wait for the autopsy report to confirm whether the girl was raped before being killed. “Prima facie, there doesn’t seem to be a sexual assault. Further investigation to determine the exact sequence of events and motive is still in progress,” DCP Yadav said.
