New Delhi, Sep 26 () With the arrest of six persons, the
Delhi Police today claimed to have busted a gang of cheats who had duped senior citizens Rs 2 crore by promising them huge bonus on their existing insurance policy.
The gang had recently duped a retired CPWD engineer Rs80.5 lakh, promising him to get the payment of his old unpaidinsurance released.
The six persons arrested have been identified as PankajNayak, Devender Kumar, Sonu Giri, Rohit Kumar Mishra, ManishThakur and Vishal Verma.
Police said the accused procured all concerned data ofinsurance policy of victims including their contact numbersduring their job in call centers related to InsuranceCompany.
"During telecalling, they used to collect the requisiteinformation. Thereafter, they used to call customers and wouldinduce them to deposit money in the form of refundableincome tax in bank accounts.
"Once the victim deposits the money on their direction, in second phase, they further induced the victim stating that his dividend on Insurance Policy had been increased. Hence customer had to deposit the increased income tax," DCP (North-West)
Vijay Singh said.
Singh also said that accused introduced themselves asofficials of insurance company and later they startedintroducing themselves as officers of RBI to pressurisevictims to deposit the next instalment.
The accused impersonated themselves as officials and usedthe name and designation of reputed departments to cheatinnocent people. The tool meant for public facility wasmisused by these clever accused so that victim can easilytrust them.
Police have recovered five mobile phones including SIMcards used in offence, one laptop, one pen-drive and a cash Rs40,000. BUNRG
