NEW DELHI: An incident of firing was reported at the Holy Family hospital in South-East Delhi’s Jamia Nagar area on Thursday night. Police said a fight had ensued between two groups of students following which some of them reached the hospital for treatment post which the firing incident took place.

The hospital in a statement said one shot was fired in the Emergency between the clashing groups. “No bystanders, other patients or hospital staff were injured,” the hospital authorities said. The situation was immediately brought under control.

According to the police, a call was received at Jamia Nagar police station around 9pm regarding a quarrel at Jamia University Library inside Jamia Millia Islamia University. On enquiry, it was found that the fight had ensued between two groups of students. In the incident, a student Nauman Chaudhary (26), 2nd year LLM student sustained blunt injury on head and had gone to Holy Family Hospital for treatment. Another student Nauman Ali, an associate of Nauman Chaudhary also visited the Hospital to see his friend. In the meantime, one more student of the rival group identified as Zalal accompanied by his friends came to hospital and fired at Nauman Ali outside the Emergency ward.

“Nauman had a superficial injury on the scalp. The injured is fit for statement and has been shifted to AIIMS Trauma Center. The crime team is inspecting the scene of crime. Legal action has been initiated accordingly at Jamia Nagar and New Friends Colony police stations. The situation is under control,” said Esha Pandey, DCP, South-East.

Meanwhile, the hospital authorities in a statement said that there was a clash between two groups in the locality, and some injured persons were brought to the hospital Emergency following which one shot was fired.
