NEW DELHI: BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain was allegedly threatened over the phone on Saturday night after which he registered a case at Parliament Street police station. Cops are tracking the number from which the calls were made. Hussain said he had returned to Delhi from Patna around 11.30pm. When he was at Chhatarpur on his way back home, he got the call from an unknown number.
The caller mentioned his name and threatened him for supporting the government’s decisions on TV channels.
The caller abused Hussain several times and said that no one could save him if he kept batting for the BJP-led government and asked him to leave the party. He said that the caller first made a call around 11.30pm and then disconnected it when Hussain confronted him. A few minutes later he called again and threatened him. When Hussain tried to call back, the number was unreachable.
Senior police officials reached his house and recorded details about the case around 12.30am. Delhi Police special cell has also been roped in for investigation.
Additional commissioner (New Delhi) SBS Tyagi confirmed that an FIR under IPC section related to threatening along with sections of the IT Act has been lodged, but refused to divulge details. Initial probe has revealed that the calls were made from a 14-digit international number traced to Dubai.
