SDMC to procure 4 e-sweeping machines for narrow lanes

New Delhi: South Delhi Municipal Corporation has cleared a proposal to procure four electric road sweeping machines worth Rs 14.7 crore. According to the proposal that was tabled before the standing committee meeting on Tuesday, electric machines will reduce pollution, while each one will save diesel fuel costs worth Rs 7,175 per shift.
An official said e-road sweeping machines would be bought using urban development funds granted by the ministry of housing and urban affairs.
SDMC’s standing committee chairman Col (retd) BK Oberoi said the machines would have a powerful suction capacity that could be used for cleaning inner colony roads. “We have asked the manufacturing company to extend the length of the suction pipe so that it can be used to clean space under the parked vehicles as well. Trials of these units took place in Rajouri Garden recently and the machines were found to be effective,” he added.
The proposal argues that the e-sweeping machines have zero emissions, very low noise levels and low turning radius.
Meanwhile, SDMC has issued a lease deed violation notice to Maharaja Agrasen Hospital Charitable Trust for alleged unauthorised construction in the form of a shed. While the civic body had asked the hospital to submit Rs 79.9 lakh as damages, the standing committee may consider waiving the penalty due to the pandemic situation. Oberoi said the matter had been postponed for the next meeting.
The standing committee also approved renewal of health trade licences with waiver of interest and penalty till August 31.
