They also decamped with the .12 bore double-barrel gun of bank guard Ved Prakash, who was not present at the spot and had left behind the weapon. The police have failed to ascertain how the robbers could enter the bank. However, an eyewitness claimed he had seen a black Scorpio outside the bank at the time.
Police sources said: "There were about 12 customers and 10 bank employees in the bank at the time. The robbers looted the cash at gunpoint.''
According to Ghaziabad SSP L Ravi Kumar, "We are still trying to ascertain the amount that has been looted.'' According to the city police chief, Vijay Bhushan, "It is obvious that some bank employees were hand-in-glove with the robbers, providing them inside information.''
Meanwhile, the regional manager of ICICI bank, Sandeep Gupta, alleged that the police arrived late. The police believe that the robbers were not locals as they had not tried to hide their faces.
