NEW DELHI: An 80-year-old woman was allegedly beaten up and robbed by three men who broke into her house in Lajpat Nagar on Thursday night.
The woman, Usha Khanna, said the robbers took away jewellery worth lakhs. A case has been registered on the basis of her complaint, police said.
Khanna, who lives on the ground floor of a house in Lajpat Nagar's Phase I, told the cops that she was woken up by a noise around 12.30am.
On getting up, she found three men wearing masks trying to open the locker in her room. When the robbers saw that she had woken up, one of them first held her at knifepoint and then hit her a couple of times, after which she fell unconscious. The men then tied her up and fled with some gold bangles, earrings and two silver coins.
Khanna further said that she gained consciousness around 3am and raised an alarm, following which her son and daughter-in-law rushed to her room and untied her. She was taken to a local hospital where she was given first aid. Khanna and her son registered a complaint at the Lajpat Nagar police station.
The family members told the cops that the robbers had entered the house through a steel gate after breaking the latch. Interestingly, her son and daughter-in-law, who were sleeping in the adjacent room, did not hear any noise.
Following the incident, a crime and forensic team went to the house to lift finger prints and other evidence. The cops are now trying to establish the sequence of events narrated by the woman. A case of robbery and criminal intimidation has been registered against unknown persons.
