NEW DELHI: Shoppers at Khan Market had a tough time on Wednesday morning as a road cave-in near Maharishi Raman Marg, which connects Lodhi Road and Subramaniam Bharti Marg, resulted in a major traffic jam.
NDMC officials said a two-feet-wide cave-in was reported near Golf Links Apartments around 10am. Following the report, traffic officials closed down the whole carriageway.
The road was repaired and opened for traffic by evening, officials said.
The cars coming from Khan Market and going towards south Delhi were diverted to Archbishop Makarios Marg. Khan Market was full of shoppers and diners on Christmas because of which more vehicles were seen on the roads than usual, officials said. The jam resulted in slow traffic movement for nearly a kilometer. “Due to an increased number of vehicles in the area because of the festivities, we have deployed officials at strategic points to control the flow of traffic,” said a traffic official.
NDMC officials said that the workers had started repairing the road as soon as they got to know about the cave-in and managed to complete it by evening.
Meanwhile, slow movement of traffic was also reported from Rajpath-Akbar Road as a stretch which had caved in last week is still under repairs. Officials said that it will be repaired in a few more days.
