RJD enters JNU student poll arena

NEW DELHI: Lalu Prasad Yadav’s RJD has made an

entry

into the

Jawaharlal Nehru University student elections

this year, fielding

Jayant Kumar

for the

presidential post

.

Kumar said the key issues would be the policies that have attacked the inclusive nature of the university. He also attacked the HRD ministry for not keeping its promise on getting enough teachers for the university.

Left Unity, too, came out strong, with AISA’s N Sai Balaji of School of International Studies being fielded as the presidential candidate. While DSF will contest for VP, SFI for general secretary and AISF for joint secretary posts. Balaji criticised the government for attacking dissent in the country, the increasing unemployment, fall of the rupee and high fuel prices. Balaji stressed on the university-based issues like lack of water facilities and rising hostel fees.

Attacking Left Unity, ABVP’s presidential candidate, Lalit Pandey, said, “The Left has added another group (AISF) to the alliance as it knows it cannot defeat us single-handedly.” He also attacked them for not focusing on JNU.

The NSUI candidate, Vikas Yadav, attacked both ABVP and the Left for only talking about various issues while not resolving any of them.
