Row over security withdrawal: Delhi court tell cops to reinstate security of woman wrestler

NEW DELHI: After three women wrestlers who levelled allegations of sexual harassment against BJP functionary Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh moved a court alleging that Delhi Police has withdrawn their security, the court on Thursday directed the New Delhi DCP to make "immediate and appropriate arrangements" for the security of one of them who is to appear as a witness before it on Friday.

The court of additional chief judicial magistrate Priyanka Rajpoot said the security would remain until further orders and asked DCP Devesh Kumar Mahla to file a report on Friday.

The wrestlers claimed in their plea on Thursday that they were recently informed by their personal security officers (PSOs) that as per the directions received from "higher officials", their security had been withdrawn just a day before the date of hearing.

A post from the official verified account of the DCP on X later claimed that the security hadn't been withdrawn, but Haryana police would be requested to take over the responsibility as the wrestlers resided there. "The assigned Delhi Police PSOs misunderstood this decision and got delayed in reporting today. The situation has been rectified," the post stated.
