Red Fort blast: Forensic team collects 40 sample including 2 cartridges, explosives; 2nd more potent
NEW DELHI: A Forensic Science Laboratory team has collected over 40 samples, including two cartridges and two types of explosive materials, from the site of a high-intensity blast near Red Fort that killed 12 people on Monday. Initial analysis suggests one explosive sample is ammonium nitrate.
The FSL team discovered the cartridges, including live ammunition, during their inspection of the blast site. Preliminary findings indicate one explosive sample appears to be ammonium nitrate, while the second type is believed to be more potent, according to news agency PTI.
"The second explosive sample is believed to be more powerful than ammonium nitrate. Its exact composition will be confirmed after detailed forensic examination," an official said.
The FSL has formed a special team to analyze the collected samples. The laboratory has been operating continuously since the explosion occurred.
Officials have instructed the special team to expedite the examination process and submit their findings promptly. The investigation continues to determine the nature of the explosives and their deployment in the blast.
The explosion occurred near the Red Fort traffic signal, targeting a slow-moving vehicle. The incident has prompted an extensive forensic investigation to understand the complete circumstances of the blast.
