Ramjas College staff under lens for violence

NEW DELHI: Students, who are members of AISA and ABVP, and teachers of Ramjas College are being examined by the police to establish the identity of the “culprits” behind the clashes that broke out in February.
A complaint filed by advocate Vivek Garg had alleged that students affiliated to AISA and SFI had raised anti-national slogans in the college on February 21 during a literature fest.
The nine-page report filed by Delhi Police in the court of metropolitan magistrate Abhilash Malhotra talks of requests made by police to students and the public to give statements and provide evidence, which could be video or audio recordings, so that the unknown accused could be identified.
“Details of students of various colleges are being sought from the DU proctor,” the report states. A notice has been issued to the Ramjas College principal to provide CCTV footage or video recordings conducted by the college administration.
Police said that the video footage received by the complainant in the case apparently looked doctored. “The video footage is not clear as it has been obtained from unknown social network and media websites and apparently looks doctored,” the report says. It added that four police officers have been suspended and face departmental action.
Requests have been sent to different electronic media sources to provide unedited footage of the incident.
There are eight complaints against ABVP supporters and 37 against AISA. Arguments on the matter will be heard on August 29.
