Rajendra Nagar triple murder: 5 arrested
New Delhi: Five people were arrested and two juveniles apprehended for wiping out a property dealer and his family in central Delhi's Rajendra Nagar earlier this week. Another person is believed to be still on the run.
The mastermind, Rajan Singh, was a former jail mate of the realtor, Sanjay Sanwar. Though dacoity was the main motive behind the attack, police are yet to recover the loot.

Rajan with his associates Rajendra Singh, Sanjay Kumar, Harender and Ram Kishore had gone to Sanwar's house on January 10 at 8.30pm after Sanwar's sister Reena and her husband Mahender had left home. Rajan's used a business deal as ruse to enter the house. Police said the idea was to loot money and bump off the family if it resisted.
Rajan, on purpose, got into an argument with Sanwar and followed him to the bedroom where he strangled him with a towel. The body was stuffed into an almirah. All this while, Sanjay kept a watch on Sanwar's wife Jyoti who was at the kitchen cooking dinner. He even offered to help her with the dishes so that she couldn't hear what was going on in the bedroom. Rajan then walked into the drawing room and attacked Sanwar's son Pawan who was watching TV. He was gagged and bound and dragged to his bedroom. When he resisted, he was strangled with his mother's dupatta. The body was left on the bed with a sheet rolled over it to make it appear as if Pawan was asleep. Once Jyoti served dinner and went looking for Pawan at his bedroom, Rajan strangled her too.
The two juveniles were asked to keep a watch outside even as the five men ransacked the house for the next four hours. They decamped with Rs 7 lakh. But one of them also took Sanwar's cellphone, which led police to him and then to the rest of them, said JCP (central range) S K Gautam.
Rajan later told police that he had been dealing with Sanwar for the last one year after getting out on bail. He tried his hand at property dealing but was not successful. Sanwar had boasted about a few lucrative property deals, which made Rajan decide to rob him. The five men conducted a trial run at the house a fortnight earlier when Rajan went with a similar business deal which Sanwar had rejected.
They also collected information about Sanjay and Jyoti's movements. Police suspect the role of someone known to the family in supplying information to the assailants. The men have been booked for murder and the juveniles have been sent to a correctional home.
