new delhi: the atomic energy regulation board has informed a city court that rules for protection of technicians against radiation are not being followed in government hospitals. ''we have inspected some hospitals and found the mandatory provisions of radioactivity protection rules are not being followed till date,'' a r sundarajan, an aerb official told the court.
sundarajan and a colleague, a u senwane, were summoned by chief metropolitan magistrate sangeeta dhingra sehgal in connection with alleged negligence on the part of three city hospitals—safdarjung, aiims and lnjp—which caused the death of three radiographers. delhi municipal radiographers' union general secretary satya narayan had filed a complaint on may 12, 2000, against the director of aiims and the medical superintendents of safdarjung and lnjp hospitals, accusing them of deliberately not following provisions of the atomic energy act, 1962, the radioactivity protection rules, 1971, and the aerb safety code. the aerb chairman has also been made an accused in the case for allegedly not implementing the norms.
