NEW DELHI: A day after Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) told the Delhi High Court that senior IPS officer R K Sharma, prime accused in the journalist Shivani Bhatnagar murder case, had fled the country, Delhi Police on Tuesday insisted that "all information and clues" indicated that he was still in India.
Delhi Police Additional Commissioner (Crime) Qamar Ahmed claimed that SPP S K Saxena had been "misquoted" as he was "just making a passing reference" during the arguments over the anticipatory bail petition of Sharma.
"All the information and clues collected reveal that R K Sharma is in India," Ahmed told reporters here.
Claiming that police had got "new clues" regarding the whereabouts of Sharma, he said "all out efforts" were being made to nab him.
He also refused to specify the exact motive of the killing of Shivani when questioned about it in the wake of latest argument by police that the scribe was murdered because she was "blackmailing" Sharma over some "sensitive documents".
Earlier, police maintained that Shivani was killed because she had an affair with Sharma and was "blackmailing" him over it.
"We will disclose the motive when the probe is completed," he said. Ahmed, however, denied that any espionage angle had come to light during the probe so far.
He also denied that Saxena was being removed following the development.
