NEW DELHI: Several areas in south Delhi suffered power cuts on Tuesday night and Wednesday. The delay in the monsoon and the prevailing humid weather has meant that residents still have to use ACs.
Some areas like Malviya Nagar, Dayanand Colony, Amar Colony and Lajpat Nagar had intermittent power cuts all night. "Power supply went off at 2 am and we could use the inverter only till 8 am.
First, we were told that there was a problem with the Shivalik grid. Then, we discovered that there was a cable fault. Even at 8 pm, power is yet to be restored," said Amrita Sharma, a Malviya Nagar resident. BSES said that power supply in the area had been affected for two hours due to a cable fault.
Dayanand Colony, too, did not have power from 1 am to 4 am, and then again from 1 pm to 3 pm on Wednesday. In South Extension-II, residents suffered a power cut from 10.15 pm on Tuesday night. "Power was only restored at 4 pm on Wednesday. We had a tough time all day," said Kulbir Singh, a resident.
In Vasant Vihar, RWA president Gautam Vohra said that power supply was cut at 11.30 am. "Most homes have generators or inverters, but our association office does not. Our electronic typewriter and computer was shut down and we could not do any work," he said.
BSES said power supply was affected in areas like Adhchini, Andheria Bagh and Tughlaqabad for an hour due to a maintenance shutdown of a 100 MVA transformer at Transco''s 220 KV Okhla grid. West Delhi''s Paschim Vihar was also affected for two hours due to the snapping of a conductor.
BSES said supply would be disrupted in Sarai Khalil, Idgah, Motia Khan, Jhandewalan, Aram Bagh and adjoining areas between 11 am to 3 pm on Thursday for maintenance.
