NEW DELHI: An 18-year-old boy died after he was hit by a Delhi Traffic Police crane, on Tuesday morning in Karampura in West Delhi. The deceased has been identified as Kuljeet Singh, resident of H-block, Karampura, in west Delhi. The police said that they have registered a case against the crane driver at the Moti Nagar Police station but no one has been arrested so far.
According to an eyewitness Ashok Kumar, who had come to put his child on a DTC school bus, Kuljeet was speeding on Motinagar main road, opposite Jhulelal temple, at around 7:40 am on Tuesday, when the crane driven by Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Omveer Singh struck Kuljeet's bike from the rear end.

Kuljeet immediately fell down, hurting his head, while the bike continued to move and hit the rear of the DTC bus. Kuljeet was immediately rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital in Hari Nagar, by a PCR van, where he was declared brought dead by doctors.
A case has been lodged against ASI, Omveer Singh, at the Moti Nagar police station, under section 279 for negligent driving, and 304A for culpable homicide, not amounting to murder. Singh, however, has denied the whole incident saying that the crane didn't even touch the bike, inspite of eyewitness accounts stating otherwise.
The Police too has refrained from taking him into custody. "All three vehicles, the motorbike, DTC bus and the crane have been impounded. We have started an investigation and a report is awaited from the Forensic Science Laboratory on mechanical inspection of the vehicles," said a senior police official.
Kuljeet was the only son of property dealer, Raghuveer Singh. Kuljeet's sister, Kalpana(20), told Times City amid tears,"We had so many dreams for him. He had just joined class 10 via open school and was pursuing a course in mobile technology from Karampura. He was all set to start his own shop that we were about to open for him, but that was never meant to be."
In another incident, a 28-year-old man, identified as Munna, died after being hit by a vehicle in central Delhi on Monday night. Munna was hit by an unidentified vehicle, while he was crossing the road in Prasad Nagar.
