PG registrations to close today, entrance in July
NEW DELHI:
While
It has been seen in the past that admission to entrance and merit-based courses often exceeds the sanctioned strength leading to problems like overcrowding in classrooms. Courses like Masters in English have faced overcrowding in classrooms not only due to excess admissions, but also due to Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board (NCWEB) students attending lectures with regular ones.
“The sanctioned strength for admission to MA English is 309. We will adhere to the prescribed number this year,” said Anil Aneja, MA admissions convener, DU.
Students pursuing Masters in English said that they often have to reach an hour early to secure a seat from where the teachers are audible. “On several occasions students have to wait for the lecture to end to find a seat. The other option is to find a cramped space, which makes it difficult to take notes,” said a final year student.
The HOD of English, Christel Rashmi Devadawson, assured that several measures have been taken to end overcrowding in classrooms. “With the improvement of teaching facilities for NCWEB and efforts to resume teaching of both optional and core courses in both North and South campuses, we can look forward to overcoming this issue,” she said.
Currently, many students are required to travel between both the campuses to attend lectures and internal assessments that are scheduled once a week. “We are trying to minimise the shuttling between campuses with infrastructural developments,” said Devadawson.
