: Mohammed Mansoor Asghar Peerbhoy (31) aka Munnawar alias Mannu,the software engineer who was arrested by Mumbai ATS from Pune on September 28,was brought to Delhi by the special cell in connection with the Delhi serialblasts on Friday. He is allegedly the head of the media wing of IndianMujahideen (IM).
Peerbhoy, who had earlier wanted to be an approverin the Ahmedabad and Delhi blasts case, withdrew his application 10 days ago.Following this, his counsel Subhash Kanse withdrew his representation leavingPeerbhoy without a counsel presently. According to the law, an accused ifaccepted as an approver by the court can be granted bail soon after the courtgives him pardon.
If he turns hostile, the approver faces trial, as per section306 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
Peerbhoy was allegedlyresponsible for sending terror mails to news channels minutes before the blasts."Besides sending out emails, was he involved in any other activity? We have toquestion him about his role in the Delhi blasts conspiracy,'' said a seniorpolice officer. The police wants to interrogate him on planning of Delhi blastssince he was allegedly in constant touch with Atif Amin, the alleged leader ofDelhi operations of IM.
"His questioning may also reveal the role of Bhatkalbrothers and Amir Raza Khan, the main conspirators who are absconding,'' addedthe officer.
During his interrogation in Mumbai, he allegedlyadmitted to knowing Riyaz Bhatkal, one of the senior IM leaders who was incharge of the Gujarat module and is named as the key conspirator in the Delhiblasts case. Peerbhoy also confessed to knowing Bhatkal's brother Iqbal. He alsoknows Mubin Quadir Shaikh alias Salman, another IM operative who is in thecustody of Mumbai Police, as Salman was Peerbhoy's younger brother's classmate,the officer added.
Peerbhoy is reportedly very tech-savvy and isindoctrinated with jehadi philosophy. He was reportedly inducted into the IMmodule by two headhunters Arif and Akbar at an Arabic learning centre wherePeerbhoy took classes. The duo's role was to find suitable people for jehad atdifferent places.
According to the police, Peerbhoy, who worked witha multinational software company in Pune and was earning an annual salary of Rs19 lakh, was allegedly responsible for hacking unsecured Wi-Fi networks inMumbai and Navi Mumbai and sending emails to news channels minutes before theJuly 26 Ahmedabad blasts and the September 13 Delhi explosions. His familymembers, who stay in a posh apartment in Pune, deny his involvement in theblasts. Peerbhoy is married and has a young child.
The Gujaratpolice may seek his custody for interrogation later.
