Women will no longer need to go to a police station to register their complaint.
IG SN Vashistha said that under this scheme, women can register their complaints against eve-teasers, chain snatchers and molesters. Moreover, women who are victims of domestic abuse and dowry will also be able to register their complaints. The PCR van will have a woman police officer duly trained to perform this important social duty.
The PCR van will be available from 9am to 9pm. Between n 9am and 2pm, the van is slated to visit schools and colleges, from 2pm to 4pm, it will patrol slum areas and from 4pm to 9pm, markets and malls.
Vashistha added that the helpline would network between various PCR vans and the van nearest to the victim would rush to help. Particularly during visits to slum areas, the women's PCR vans will counsel residents on various matters and discourage the practice of sending very young girls to work as domestic help in more affluent homes.
