NEW DELHI: The much-awaited plan to shift the Patiala House court district complex to Rouse Avenue at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg, is likely to take off.
Sources say that the Delhi Government’s law department is working on a cabinet note to seek approval for the construction of a new court premises near the Comptroller and Auditor General of India building.

The new building, which will handle cases of new Delhi district, is likely to come up on five acres of land and will have ten floors. The project, estimated to cost around Rs 306 crores, will be monitored by the Delhi high court. The law department has already sought approval from various agencies — like the fire department, Delhi Urban Arts Commission, north corporation, etc — said sources.
Shifting of the court complex has been on the cards for a long time. The court is presently situated in the erstwhile palace of the Maharaja of Patiala near India Gate. Many prominent cases, including the high profile 2G scam, is being tried in the Patiala hous at present.
