Parts of Delhi-NCR receive heavy rain, IMD predicts week-long rainfall
NEW DELHI: Heavy rainfall poured over several parts of Delhi-NCR, offering respite from hot and humid condition on Thursday.
Areas, including Delhi's RK Puram, Sarita Vihar, Khan Market, Munirka and Noida witnessed heavy showers in the morning.
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain and thunderstorms in parts of Delhi, along with strong winds blowing at a speed of 20-30km per hour throughout the day.
According to the IMD, the minimum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 28.6 degrees Celsius.
An IMD official said, "The intensity of rain will increase. On Friday and Saturday, parts of the city could receive moderate rainfall. While on Sunday June 30, there are chances of moderate to heavy rainfall, accompanied with gusty winds."
The IMD's seven-day forecast suggests that the rainy weather will continue in Delhi until July 1. The maximum temperature in the city is anticipated to be around 39 degrees Celsius, as per the weather agency.
The Met forecast indicates that the maximum temperatures will continue to drop throughout the week,
hovering around 38 degrees on Thursday and Friday, 36 on Saturday, and 34 on Sunday.
According to Mahesh Palawat, vice-chairman of meteorology and climate change at Skymet, "There are chances that the monsoon may arrive between June 28 and June 30.
The monsoon current typically enters Delhi between June 27 and 29. In the previous year, it arrived on June 26, while the initial monsoon showers of 2022 were recorded on June 30, based on the available data.
Prior to this, Delhi had been grappling with sweltering heat, with nine heatwave days recorded in June so far, in contrast to none in 2023 and 2022.
