NEW DELHI:
OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, will open its first India office in New Delhi later, according to a report by Reuters.
The Microsoft-backed firm said it has already registered as a legal entity in India and started hiring for a local team.
“Opening our first office and building a local team is an important first step in our commitment to make advanced AI more accessible across the country and to build AI for India, and with India,” OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman said in a statement.
India is OpenAI’s second-largest market by users.
Earlier this week, the company rolled out its cheapest monthly subscription plan yet at Rs 385 ($4.60), targeting the country’s nearly one billion internet users.
