across 77 locations in the country after filing 23 FIRs against 83 individuals allegedly involved in circulation of material related to the exploitation of children. Around 10 suspects have been arrested and are being questioned, sources said.

Around 5,000 individuals from as many as 100 countries are supposedly involved in the racket. The initial probe shows the use of social media platforms like WhatsApp groups to circulate obscene material.

CBI spokesperson R C Joshi confirmed there were over 50 such groups sharing and even trading child sexual abuse material. “Many of these groups also have involvement of foreign nationals...,” he added. The CBI is coordinating with other agencies on the matter. Searches and development of further leads is under way. Following the raid, multiple electronic gadgets, including mobile and laptops have been seized.
