Delhi blast: Interpol’s red notice likely against J&K fugitive doctor
NEW DELHI: Interpol is likely to issue a red notice against Dr Muzaffar Ahmad Rather, a medical professional from Jammu & Kashmir's Anantnag, who is accused of being one of the masterminds of the car blast that claimed 13 lives near the Red Fort on Nov 10 last year.
This followed the arrest of his brother, Dr Adeel Ahmad Rather, who remains in custody as a primary conspirator.
A paediatrician from south Kashmir, Muzaffar is believed to be hiding somewhere in Afghanistan or Pakistan and was said to be guiding the bomber, Umar-Un-Nabi, along with main handler Ukasa. He fled to Dubai and then went to Afghanistan in August last year.
Muzaffar, sources said, was the link between Jaish-e-Mohummed handlers and the inter-state terror network which planned and executed the attack in Nov. J&K police busted the module and recovered 360 kg of ammonium nitrate from the rented accommodation of one Dr Muzamil Shakeel of Al-Falah University in Faridabad. Shortly after, cops stumbled upon a much larger cache of explosives in and around the campus.
Shakeel was arrested, leading investigators to several others in the alleged module, including his wife, Dr Shaheen. Umar escaped and was on the run for around nine days before he executed the attack.
With evidence into the explosion suggesting the involvement of international financing and logistics, police have followed up on the status of their request for a red notice against Muzaffar through Central Bureau of Investigation, the nodal agency. He was already declared a fugitive by the court.
