After chief minister Sheila Dikshit raised the matter of L-G’s ‘‘ interference’’ in governance, seemingly unmindful of the fact that the L-G is actually a representative of the central government , where her own party is in power, it was Speaker Yoganand Shastri’s turn on Thursday when in answer to a question about statehood — that saw two days of debate in the Assembly — he said: ‘‘ No matter who is in power at the Centre, Congress, BJP, left or Lok Morcha, nobody wants to give statehood to Delhi which is why we have now placed this demand for special status statehood.’’ Encroaching further into the territory of the L-G and therefore, the central government, Shastri also expressed concern about the state of law and order in the city.
