No philosophy in 12th? face a 2.5% cut
NEW DELHI: Parents of DU aspirants who wanted to study
While the number of students who have studied philosophy in Delhi schools is almost negligible, few other boards across the country offer philosophy in Class XI. Delhi University has refused to do away with the 2.5% deduction for BA (H) philosophy and all colleges are expected to follow the rule.
However, Miranda House did not carry out the deduction for admissions through the first cutoff, following an admission committee meeting in the college. “We are refraining from denying admission to students who have not studied philosophy in Class XI and XII...hardly any schools in Delhi teach philosophy,” said a faculty member from Miranda House.
The deputy dean of student’s welfare of DU, Amrita Bajaj, said all colleges are expected to carry out deductions. “DU admits students from across the country who have studied in different boards so we can’t bend the rules by giving preference to one board,” she said.
