Nirbhaya case live updates: All 4 convicts executed in Tihar Jail
All four convicts of Nirbhaya gangrape and murder case - Akshay Thakur, Pawan Gupta, Vinay Sharma, and Mukesh Singh - were hanged at 5:30am in Tihar jail today. The hanging was carried out as per the schedule after a three-judge Supreme Court bench rejected the final plea by the convicts' lawyer AP Singh to stay their execution in a late-night hearing. After the postmortem, the bodies of the convicts will be handed over to their respective families. The families of the convicts will have to give an undertaking in writing that they will not make a public demonstration of any kind in relation to the cremation or burial of the bodies.

As news of hanging of her daughter's four rapists flashed on the TV screen, Asha Devi heaved a sigh of relief, hugged her loved ones, held back her tears and with a voice heavy with emotion said that the sun will rise on Friday with new hopes for daughters of India. The curtains came down at 5.30am when Akshay, Pawan, Vinay and Mukesh of the six men, who brutally raped a Delhi student on a moving bus on a winter night in December 2012, were finally hanged to death.

Hundreds of people, carrying the national flag and shouting slogans of 'long live Nirbhaya' and 'Bharat Mata ki Jai', gathered outside the Tihar Jail since early hours of Friday with some of them distributing sweets after the four convicts in the Nirbhaya gangrape and murder case were executed.

Justice has finally been done and women will definitely feel safer now, Nirbhaya's mother Asha Devi said after four men convicted of gang rape and murder of her daughter were hanged at Tihar Jail on Friday. Talking to reporters at her house, she said that justice was delayed, but not denied, and added that they would continue their fight for justice for India's daughters.
