Nirbhaya case: Lawyers heckled outside court
NEW DELHI: Scores of people protested outside Saket Court complex on Wednesday afternoon after the fast track court reserved its sentencing of the accused in the December 16 gang rape. However, matters turned ugly when some of the protesters tried to heckle the defence lawyers and also flung a slipper at them. The mobile phone of Geeta Singh, one of the lawyers, was also stolen.
1x1 polls

About 2.15pm, a large number of protesters, some of them from one 'December 16 Kranti Sena', had gathered outside the gate. They began to shout slogans demanding justice for Nirbhaya and blaming the defence for delaying the judgement.
As soon as the defence counsel came out of the complex, the protesters surrounded them. Suddenly, a group of women headed towards the lawyers with slippers in their hands, calling them names like 'rapists'. Geeta Singh, who is defending Vinay and Akshay in the case, tried to sneak out but was heckled by a woman in the crowd and abused. Some protesters also offered money to the counsels.
The lawyers first tried to leave but were forced to make a PCR call for help. A complaint was later filed at Saket police station.
