NEW DELHI: The narcotics wing of the crime branch has arrested a Nigerian guitarist, who was employed with several churches in Dwarka, for selling drugs to clients in posh areas of south Delhi.
"We have recovered 60gm of cocaine worth Rs 25 lakh in the international market from the accused who has been identified as Sunday,'' said DCP (crime) Ashok Chand.
The police said the interrogation of the accused has revealed that he came to India about a year ago on a business visa. He stayed for four months in Tiruchirapalli in Tamil Nadu and later shifted to Shahpura in the Tilak Vihar area. "The accused met a fellow Nigerian, Chukuemeka, who was supplying cocaine to clients in posh south Delhi areas like Sainik Farms and Vasant Kunj. Chukuemeka gave Sunday telephone numbers of the customers and even gave him cocaine for distributing to the clients. The accused called up his clients over phone and then dropped off the consignment at designated spots. The accused used an illegally acquired auto for the job. Strangely, he was never caught by the traffic police,'' said investigating officer Vivek Pathak.
During investigations, the accused even failed to show any valid documents such as his passport and visa and section 14 of Foreigners Act was further added to the FIR, informed Chand.
The police said they are now investigating the sources from where the accused got his supply of cocaine. "There is one possibility of the banned substance coming into the capital from Jammu & Kashmir and the other is from Nepal through eastern UP. We have sought Sunday's custody and hope to get leads on his associates soon,'' said the officer.
