NEW DELHI: A city court on Friday sentenced a Nigerian national to four years'' rigorous imprisonment. The convict, Shokambi Anthony, was found guilty of possessing 70 grams of cocaine.
Special judge N K Sharma also asked Anthony to pay a fine of Rs 25,000. Anthony was arrested by the narcotics branch of the Delhi police in April last year.
On April 15, Anthony, along with three other Nigerian nationals — Emeka, Ola-Yinka and Ikechi — had gathered at a house in Vikapuri.
While the police managed to arrest Anthony in the raid, the other three escaped.
In a subsequent search, the police recovered cocaine from Anthony''s undergarment. Charges were framed under the relevant sections of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against him on November 12, 2003.
Anthony had alleged that police took US $ 1,500 from him and when he objected, he was falsely implicated.
