NEW DELHI: The
National Green Tribunal (NGT) pulled up the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) on Monday over its failure to comply with the tribunal’s earlier directions, especially in regards to the Ghazipur landfill.
A bench headed by NGT chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar asked senior EDMC officials why nothing was done by them despite directions issued by the tribunal from time to time, particularly in relation to the Ghazipur site in the case of Almitra Patel and Kudrat Sandhu. The tribunal further directed them to immediately start working on Ghazipur to reduce its height.
“The bio-stabilisation and compaction of the Ghazipur site should start forthwith and all action taken at the site should be videographed and placed before the tribunal,” the order said.
The next date of the hearing is September 19. The tribunal had last week issued show-cause notices to EDMC, NHAI, DDA and Delhi government over the Ghazipur landfill collapse.
