PM Modi inaugurates 2 key highway projects

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Delhi section of Dwarka Expressway and Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) on August 17, 2025, in Rohini. Developed at a combined cost of nearly Rs 11,000 crore, these projects aim to decongest Delhi, improve connectivity, and reduce pollution.

Urban extension road-II opens to public

The 10.1-km Delhi stretch of Dwarka Expressway and the Alipur–Dichaon Kalan segment of UER-II, along with new links to Bahadurgarh and Sonipat, were opened for public use.

Shiv Murti to Dwarka Sector-21 RUB — 5.9 km stretch

The 5.9 km segment of the Dwarka Expressway connects Shiv Murti intersection to the Road Under Bridge (RUB) at Dwarka Sector-21. It forms the first phase of the Delhi section, offering smooth multi-modal connectivity and reducing congestion.

Dwarka Sector-21 RUB to Delhi-Haryana border — 4.2 km stretch

The 4.2 km stretch connects Dwarka Sector-21 Road Under Bridge (RUB) to the Delhi-Haryana border. It provides seamless connectivity to the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II), enhancing traffic flow between Delhi and Haryana.

Traffic bottlenecks eased at major junctions across Delhi

The corridors are expected to ease pressure on Inner and Outer Ring Roads and congested intersections such as Mukarba Chowk, Dhaula Kuan, Madhuban Chowk, and NH-9. Travel from Singhu border to IGI Airport may now take just 40 minutes.

Dwarka Expressway divided into strategic packages for efficient access

The ministry of road transport and highways is executing Rs 50,000 crore worth of projects to improve Delhi’s road network. This inauguration marks a key step in building a cleaner, faster, and more connected capital region.

Multi-modal links: Metro, bus depot, and rail connectivity enhanced

The expressway integrates major transport hubs including Yashobhoomi Convention Centre, Delhi Metro’s Blue and Orange lines, the upcoming Bijwasan railway station, and the Dwarka cluster bus depot, promoting intermodal transport efficiency.

Rs 11,000 crore investment powers connectivity

The Dwarka Expressway’s Delhi section is built at a cost of Rs 5,360 crore, while UER-II required an investment of Rs 5,580 crore. Combined, these corridors represent one of the largest infrastructure spends in the region in recent years.
