The New Delhi Municipal Council (

NDMC

), the nodal agency for organising the event in the capital in collaboration with the AYUSH Ministry, will be organising Yoga rehearsals in these three parks on all weekends before the D day that will be held in Connaught Place from 6 AM to 8 AM. Participants will be spread out across the inner circle and the radial roads. The first rehearsal, which was held on Saturday morning in Lodhi Garden where the NDMC - along with the Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy - was training the participants, saw a decent turnout.

The NDMC is expecting 10,000 people on International Yoga Day and has already procured proportionate number of mats. "Khadi and Village Industries Commission is providing us 10,000 tri-coloured hand woven malas which will be provided to the public free of cost," said NDMC Chairman Naresh Kumar adding that the event was being held with support from Rural Electrification Corporation, and Oil and Natural Gas Corporation.

"The ministry of external affairs (MEA) has already written to embassies seeking their participation too. Nehru Park is at a walkable distance for them. They can easily participate in our rehearsals too," he said. While the instructors will come from NGOs like Art of Living, Pathanjali, Brahma Kumaris, Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, the NDMC will provide drinking water facilities, build a giant stage, set up LED screens and have first aid at the venue.

While Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the programme in Chandigarh that will be telecast at CP too, top bureaucrats and who's who of Lutyens Delhi will be present at the venue. The United Nations had declared the

Yoga Day in 2014 after which PM Modi led more than 35,000 Yoga enthusiasts at Rajpath last year for the first time, which had also led to the coining of the term 'Yogpath' by him and the creation of a world record.
