Navratri rush: Traffic curbs, diversions across Delhi from March 19–27

NEW DELHI: Traffic movement is likely to be affected across the city from March 19 to March 27, between 7 am and 11 pm, due to Navratri celebrations at major temples, including Jhandewalan Temple and Kalkaji Mandir, Delhi Traffic Police said in an advisory.

Heavy footfall is expected around temples, leading to congestion on key stretches. Near Jhandewalan Temple, traffic may be slow on Rani Jhansi Road and Desh Bandhu Gupta Road (from Paharganj Chowk to Kalkadas Chowk). In the Kalkaji area, congestion is likely on Outer Ring Road (from Chirag Delhi/Savitri Cinema flyover to Modi Mill flyover), Maa Anandmai Marg (from Crowne Plaza to Kalkaji Temple), Captain Gaur Marg and Aastha Kunj Road.

Traffic may be regulated or diverted depending on the volume of vehicles. Commuters heading towards Central Delhi and Karol Bagh have been advised to use Faiz Road, while those travelling to ISBT Kashmere Gate are advised to take Panchkuian Road to avoid bottlenecks on Rani Jhansi Road.

Parking restrictions will also be enforced. No illegal parking will be allowed on main carriageways around Jhandewalan Mandir, and parking will be strictly prohibited on Outer Ring Road between Nehru Place and Modi Mill flyover. Improperly parked vehicles will face enforcement action.

Movement of heavy goods vehicles will be restricted around Kalkaji on a need basis, particularly along Outer Ring Road, Maa Anandmai Marg and Captain Gaur Marg during peak congestion hours.

Pedestrians visiting Kalkaji Temple have been urged to use foot overbridges to cross Outer Ring Road, avoid walking on central verges or jumping railings and stick to designated footpaths and channelisers.

The traffic police have advised commuters to plan their journeys in advance, follow on-ground directions and use public transport to avoid inconvenience during the festive period.
