Navneet forged 'marriage' to Nisha

NOIDA: The Noida police, on Thursday, arrested Navneet Rai, a computer professional, for allegedly forging an affidavit that he said was Nisha Sharma’s declaration that she had married Rai on February 14.
Rai has been remanded to judicial custody by a local magistrate. His bail plea will be heard on Friday.
Nisha Sharma had got her groom Manish Dalal, and his mother Vidya Dalal, arrested for demanding dowry worth Rs.12 lakh.The Dalals were remanded to judicial custody until they were given bail last week by the Allahabad high court.
In June, Navneet Rai (22) of Noida’s Sector 22 gave the media copies of what he claimed was a marriage affidavit signed by Nisha Sharma and two witnesses. When this was published, Nisha filed a report accusing them of forging an affidavit to defame her.
On Thursday after the ‘witnesses’ denied having any knowledge of such a document, Navneet was arrested.
The report of the forensic science laboratory , about the authenticity of the purported signatures of Nisha and the two witnesses, has not yet arrived. But, district police chief Rajiv Krishna said, ‘‘We have acted on two grounds. One is that the witnesses have themselves denied they signed the document. The other is that there seems no reason why Nisha should have prepared such a document.’’
