Nand Nagri flyover gets another deadline extension
New Delhi: The deadline for the completion of Nand Nagri flyover, which starts from Mandoli prison complex and extends to Gagan Cinema on Mangal Pandey Marg, has been shifted to next year. According to earlier estimates, the work was supposed to be completed by Oct this year, and before that, the deadline was July. However, according to officials, due to GRAP construction ban and delayed tree-cutting permissions, the work will continue until next year. The flyover, situated on Mangal Pandey Marg, will serve as a crucial link between Ghaziabad (UP) and Wazirabad (Delhi) via Signature Bridge. This flyover is one of the 77 road interventions identified by govt a few years back to reduce congestion in the city. Passing through Gagan Cinema traffic light, the aim of the flyover is to provide a signal-free route to people heading to NCR town of Ghaziabad, and the traffic moving towards Seemapuri and other areas.Currently, the work on the approach road in front of the prison complex is ongoing, and the pillars of the flyover are erected. Over the pillars, slab work is under construction, but the work for the approach road is yet to start, and the road median also needs to be constructed. As per the plan, a 1.5km-long flyover comprising six lanes is being constructed to make the route signal-free. Under the flyover, six U-turns are proposed. The first one will be constructed near Nand Nagari police station, followed by two back-to-back U-turns, which will be 500 metres ahead of the turn near the police station. Another set of back-to-back U-turns is proposed near Gagan Cinema bus stop, and then one turn after Gagan Cinema junction. To aesthetically enhance the area, the selected contractor for the work will also carry out art and mural work under the elevated corridor as approved by PWD. As per the plan, improvement of two existing traffic junctions under the proposed flyover will also be done. Work on the footpath, drainage system, landscaping work, road signages and road safety fixtures will be carried out.According to officials, green clearance to transplant several trees on the construction site is awaited, which is one factor delaying the project.
