NEW DELHI: Though nearly half the time to register for nursery seats is over at many schools, the Directorate of Education issued another circular on Friday, making District Admission Monitoring Committees to address the issue of grievance redressal for economically weaker section-disadvantaged group.
It also instructs DAMCs to establish helpdesks for this group.
"Grievances must be addressed on priority," says the circular, "The [DAMC] shall maintain a database of grievances. The information shall also be made available on the DoE website." And finally, it says, "DAMC shall establish a help desk (during office hours, manned by two well-conversant officials of the district/zone) to facilitate parents regarding admissions under EWS/DG category. The help desk shall be functional till the admission process is closed."
Currently, at many schools, the form distribution for this set is at the main gate and more often than not, by the guard. Parents can't even get to the reception to ask questions.
General category parents aren't having better luck either. "Some schools pick up, at others, the phones are either unanswered or are constantly engaged," says
Jaspreet Kaur who's seeking admission for her child in south Delhi schools. She had wanted clarification on submission dates from one school and wanted to ask another if they'd accept forms on Saturdays. She didn't manage either. "Things are very confusing this year," she continues. "There are different schedules, criteria and requirements for documents. Different schools want copies of documents attested by different people-some accept self-attested papers, others want gazetted officers and one wants them signed by the SDM," says Kaur.
Janakpuri resident Kanwaljeet agrees. "I was able to complete the paperwork for the schools that started the process early because I had days off for Christmas and New Year's. Most schools are starting admissions now. I don't know how I'll get it done."
