Money for kidney surgery snatched
NEW DELHI: Savita Devi, 35, had come to Delhi all the way from Fatehbad to get her kidney operated on World Kidney Day.
What she got instead was three unknown men walking up to her, snatching her purse — with Rs 3 lakh in it — and then disappearing into the crowd. The money had been arranged for her operation by Savita's brother Om Prakash. The incident took place close to the office of the DCP (south).
According to police, the incident took place at about 1.30 pm near AIIMS in south Delhi.

"I had come with Om — a building contractor from Hissar — to get myself checked at AIIMS hospital. Om had received a payment in the morning. After my check-up got over, he decided to deposit the money with the local SBI branch since I could not get myself admitted today. But the Green Park branch officials said the deposit had to be made in his hometown. After Om came out, he asked me to sit near the Mother Dairy in Green Park while he bought my medicines from a nearby shop," said Savita.
Just as Savita Devi sat down, two men walked up to her. "They snatched my purse and then threw it over the wall into the AIIMS compound. After which they ran away and melted into the crowd," said a sobbing Savita.
Hauz Khas police have registered a case of snatching. "It seems the duo were being followed from the bank itself. Sketches have been prepared and the accused will be arrested soon," said a senior investigating officer from the south district police.
