According to police, they received intelligence about the activities of a gang engaged in mobile phone theft. Consequently, a surveillance operation was conducted in the vicinity of South Delhi's Jaitpur. "Acting on local intelligence, our team intercepted two suspects. Upon searching their bags, 112 mobile phones were recovered which were reported missing from Delhi-NCR region." said Rajesh Deo, DCP (south-east).

Upon interrogation, the accused disclosed their involvement in an intricate criminal network, specialising in various forms of theft, including pickpocketing, snatching, robbery, and mobile phone theft. These stolen phones were subsequently funnelled into the illicit market, with their potential transit route reaching Bangladesh through West Bengal, an official said.

"Investigations revealed that Akhil and Nawab dispatched roughly 160 parcels from Delhi to Kolkata, each containing around 14 stolen mobile phones, with an approximate worth of Rs 4.5 crore since 2022. The majority of these parcels were destined for Sardar, who further channelled it to Bangladesh for sale" the DCP added.
