MMS case: Judicial custody for accused
FARIDABAD: The accused in the obscene MMS case, Shan Bawa, was on Saturday produced before the court, which sent him to one-day judicial custody. In his arguments before additional chief judicial magistrate Vimal Sapra, the public prosecutor pleaded for an extension of Bawa's remand on the grounds of questioning him as well as recovering any other laptop owned by the accused.

The defence lawyer, Deepak Gera, argued that the police had sufficient time to recover any other incriminating evidence.
The accused, Gera added, was a BBA student, while the girl was an MBA student and how the two could meet was not clear. He further said the girl's parents, who had lost heavily in shares and realty, had demanded a huge amount from Bawa's parents for a settlement that was not forthcoming. The accused was absolutely innocent and had been wrongly implicated, Gera argued.
However, speaking to Times City, a close relative of the accused, Lalit Verma, said, "The girl and the boy had planned to get married. It is unimaginable that he would ever resort to posting an MMS clip on the website.'' The court will consider Bawa's bail application on Sunday.
