NEW DELHI: The weekend started on a cool note for Delhiites, who were seen chilling out, quite literally, on Saturday.
With the minimum temperature dipping further and even the maximum remaining two degrees below normal, it was a `picture perfect' afternoon at India Gate and Central Park, which where thronged by people eager to enjoy the sunny afternoon.
With the northern states receiving snowfall, the temperature in the city continued to drop. The mercury touched a low of 11 degrees Celsius on Saturday, nearly three degrees less than Friday's minimum. And, it made sure everyone flaunted their trendy winter wear. From the evergreen Nehru jackets to silk scarves, branded sweat-shirts, mufflers and even ponchos, it was all on display.
Ragini Malhotra, who works in a BPO, was in Connaught Place hunting for some `smart' pullovers. She said, "It has become really cold now and I'm still not through with my winter shopping. It's the perfect afternoon today for going out and having fun with your family or friends.''
Shubham Lal also planned to spend the day out with his group of friends from school and landed at India Gate. Enjoying the weather on the sprawling lawns, he said, "I was really looking forward to this winter, since I was away to the south for my studies last year. Now, I'm just waiting for it to get more chilly as the evening progresses so that we can relish the steamed momos and elaichi chai at our favourite neighbourhood tea-stall.''
With the Met department predicting that the mercury will plummet further in the next few days, such occasions are surely going to come more often for the city's denizens. The Met department has also forecast early morning mist followed by a clear sky through the day.
