MCD prods markets to give discounts to boost voting

New Delhi: Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has intensified its effort to increase the voting percentage in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

It has brought in various commercial establishments, which are offering discounts to voters. "Restaurants affiliated with the National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI) will offer a 20% discount to dine-in customers who vote, while some malls will also offer a discount to voters," an MCD official said.

"Chandni Chowk Sarv Vyapar Mandal has offered to give shoppers with an indelible ink mark on their finger a discount of 10% in establishments registered with the mandal. Shoppers can get this one-time offer until May 27.

Similarly, Vyapar Mandal C-4-E Janakpuri Market has decided that individuals who show their indelible voting ink mark on the finger will be entitled to a 5% discount on their shopping from the market.

"Various establishments situated in the west zone have decided to give patrons discounts varying from 10-20% if they exercise their right to vote in the upcoming general elections. Malls like Select City Walk have asked outlets situated in the mall to offer discounts to eligible voters (who have voted). The Radisson Blu Hotel, situated in the Dwarka, has announced that people who cast their votes will get a discount of 50% on a lunch buffet and 30% on a dinner buffet on May 25 (the day of the election)," an official said.

Noida voters can enjoy discounts on April 26 by NRAI, encouraging voting. Varun Khera mentions a 20% discount for dine-in customers. Similar offers planned for Delhi on May 25, with Gurgaon undecided yet.
